Nonprofits need feedback from 3 groups: staff, the board and the people they serve. Most survey tools cover one.
If you work at a nonprofit and have a .org email, here's what to use for each, and how to run your first survey free.
Staff: engagement and wellbeing
Nonprofit staff burn out in a particular way. The work matters, so people keep going long after they should have stopped. By the time it shows up as a resignation letter, it's been building for months.
2 surveys help here:
- Employee Wellbeing Survey for Nonprofits. 13 questions written for mission-driven teams. It asks things a generic survey doesn't, like "The issues I work on weigh on me outside of work" and "When workload increases, the organisation adjusts priorities rather than expecting people to absorb it."
- Team Pulse. 12 questions, about 5 minutes. Good for a quarterly check on engagement, including an employee Net Promoter Score you can track over time.
On a small team, confidentiality matters even more. If there are 4 people on the programmes team, writing style alone can give someone away. Org360's Highest mode (on the Pro plan) hides the comments completely and shows an AI summary instead. More on how anonymity works.
Board and executive director
Most boards review their executive director with a form filled in by 3 board members. They see the ED a few hours a month. The staff see them every day.
A 360 brings in the people who actually work with the ED. We use the Nonprofit Leader All-Rounder 360: 74 questions across 15 areas of leadership, adapted for nonprofits (with questions about beneficiaries and funders), using items from Marshall Goldsmith with his permission. For a lighter mid-year check, the 12-question Leadership Pulse takes about 5 minutes.
We wrote a full guide to the process: How to evaluate a nonprofit executive director.
The same 360 works for senior staff and incoming directors. And for peer feedback inside a team, Working With Me asks 12 questions about how someone works with colleagues.
Beneficiaries and communities
The people you serve are the hardest group to survey, and the most important. Long surveys don't work here. People are busy, some aren't used to forms, and many will answer on a phone.
So Happy Beneficiaries asks 3 questions:
- How likely are you to recommend us to a friend or colleague?
- Why this score?
- What can we improve?
It can stay open all year, and you can share it with a QR code on a poster or a flyer. The report shows your Net Promoter Score over time, how many people replied each month, the comments, and an AI summary you can refresh as new answers come in. It also works for funders, partners and volunteers.
Running surveys in several languages
Many nonprofits work across borders. Every Org360 survey can be sent in 8 languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Dutch, Ukrainian and Korean. People answer in their own language, and all the answers come together in one report. Other languages can be added on request.
Org360 vs SurveyMonkey and Google Forms
Google Forms is free and fine for an event sign-up or a quick poll. SurveyMonkey adds better logic and analysis. Both are built for any kind of survey, which means you build everything yourself: the questions, the anonymity rules, the analysis.
Org360 is narrower. It does feedback surveys only, comes with ready-made questions, locks results until enough people reply, and writes the report for you, including a short action plan. If you're running a staff survey or a 360, that saves a lot of time. If you need a registration form, use Google Forms.
We compared the two in more detail: Is Org360 a good alternative to SurveyMonkey for 360 feedback?
What it costs for nonprofits
2 things we do for the sector.
Free credits with a .org email
Go to org360.app/nonprofits, enter your .org email, and we'll add a free survey credit to your account. No application form, no call with our team.
Each credit runs one full survey with up to 500 respondents and the AI report. Same product everyone else gets. If you use it up and need more, come back and ask again.
40% off annual plans
- Essentials: $150 a year instead of $250. 24 surveys.
- Pro: $294 a year instead of $490. 96 surveys, plus the Highest confidentiality mode.
All surveys on a plan are available from day one and stay valid for 18 months. The discount comes off automatically when you sign up with a .org email.
Why we built this
Org360 was built by Nonprofit Builder, which works with 35+ foundations, 1,300+ grantees and 800+ consultants.
We kept seeing the same thing. Staff burning out. Leadership problems going unaddressed for years. Good people leaving because nobody asked how they were doing until it was too late. The organisations cared. A proper engagement survey just cost more than their whole staff development budget.
The free credits and the discount are how we think pricing should work for this sector.
