Race Equity Assessment Survey

Welcome to the Race Equity Assessment Survey, a practical tool to help your organization evaluate its culture, policies, and leadership through a race equity lens.

This survey is adapted from the Race Equity Framework developed by Equity in the Center, designed specifically for nonprofits and mission-driven organizations seeking to advance racial equity systematically. It explores four key areas:

🔹 Representation & Leadership — examining diversity at the top and equitable pathways to leadership

🔹 Organizational Culture — assessing whether your culture empowers staff to discuss race and address bias

🔹 Policies & Practices — exploring fairness in hiring, pay, evaluation, and systems

🔹 Accountability & Impact — reviewing how equity goals are measured, reported, and integrated into strategy

Using a mix of rating-scale questions and open-ended reflections, the tool surfaces gaps, highlights positive practices, and pinpoints opportunities to embed racial equity into your organizational DNA — whether you are just starting or seeking to go deeper.

  • Before sending, review and adjust question wording if needed to align with your organization’s terminology or context. On the next screen, add recipients’ emails individually or in bulk, and set a target deadline (note: the deadline won’t close the survey automatically).
  • Add a personalized note to the invitation email explaining why you’re seeking honest feedback: to strengthen racial equity practices and create an inclusive, fair, and accountable culture.
  • Facilitating the results: After receiving the report, share key findings with staff in a facilitated conversation or workshop. Highlight strengths, acknowledge challenges openly, and prioritize 5–7 concrete actions. Commit to regular updates on progress, and consider forming a working group or racial equity committee to sustain momentum.
